Welcome to the LSU Hospital Medicine Section
The section of Hospital Medicine was established in 2010 as an offshoot of the section of General Internal Medicine in recognition of the unique aspects of inpatient medicine. The section is comprised of 15 academic hospitalists and 6 non-academic hospitalists. The section plays an integral role in the education of the internal medicine residents. Members of the section include the program director of the internal medicine residency, the program director of the combined internal medicine/emergency medicine residency and two associate program directors.
The academic hospitalist work as clinician educators supervising residents and medical students at University Medical Center, the flagship hospital of the residency program, Touro Infirmary, and Ochsner Medical Center-Kenner. Each hospital has its unique patient population giving the residents a broad experience in hospital medicine.
The non-academic hospitalists staff two services at University Medical Center and buffer the load of the teaching services. These services play an important role in ensuring that the teaching services at University Medical Center have the optimal balance of patients.
