Located in the heart of downtown New Orleans, our school was founded in 1931 with a dual mission of training outstanding doctors who are committed to care for the underserved, and providing excellent healthcare for the people of Louisiana.

With twenty-three Departments and four Centers of Excellence, the School of Medicine (SOM) is the largest school within LSU Health New Orleans. Our faculty and learners contribute to exciting advances in medical science in both the laboratory and the clinic.

In March 2024, we embarked on a strategic planning process to establish priorities, goals, strategies, and measurable outcomes.
Our institutional self-study for the upcoming site visit includes a detailed review of all components of our medical education program.
The Pulse is the newsletter for the School of Medicine and the one-stop shop for all of the current happenings in the SOM.
