Bio
Dr. Malachi G. Sheahan III, MD, FACS, is a distinguished Professor of Surgery at Louisiana
State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) in New Orleans. He currently serves
as the Head of the Department of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Vascular and
Endovascular Surgery. Dr. Sheahan completed his medical degree at Boston University
School of Medicine and has undergone extensive training, including fellowships in
Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Tufts University and Vascular Surgery at Harvard
Medical School.
With a career spanning over two decades, Dr. Sheahan has held numerous academic and
professional appointments, including Program Director for the Fellowship and Integrated
Residency in Vascular Surgery at LSUHSC. He is a prolific researcher and educator,
having published extensively in prestigious medical journals and contributed to several
medical textbooks. His work has earned him numerous awards and honors, including multiple
recognitions as one of New Orleans Magazine’s Best Doctors in Vascular Surgery.
Dr. Sheahan is also actively involved in various professional organizations, holding
leadership positions and contributing to the advancement of vascular surgery education
and practice. His dedication to medical education is evident through his development
of simulation curricula and his role as a mentor to numerous residents and fellows.
