Dr. Dana LeBlanc is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Hematology Oncology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. Her clinical focus is primarily non-malignant hematology with a specialization in the management and treatment of sickle cell disease and vascular anomalies. With nearly a decade of experience in the field, Dr. LeBlanc currently serves as the Director of the Pediatric Sickle Cell Program as well as the Medical Director of the Vascular Anomalies Center at Manning Family Children’s in New Orleans.
Dr. LeBlanc earned her Doctorate in Medicine (MD) LSU Health Sciences Center-New Orleans and completed her pediatric residency and hematology oncology fellowship within the LSU system as well. During her training in a city with a robust sickle cell population, she developed a deep expertise in the management of sickle cell disease. As the field of vascular anomalies expanded to include roles for hematologist oncologists, Dr. LeBlanc developed clinical expertise in the comprehensive management of these conditions as well.
In her role as Director of the Sickle Cell Program, Dr. LeBlanc leads a multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving outcomes for children with sickle cell disease through innovative treatments, comprehensive care, and research. She is passionate about advancing therapies and expanding access to care and serves as the Louisiana state principal investigator for the Heartland/Southwest Sickle Cell Network treatment demonstration program. She is also the site principal investigator for several industry-sponsored clinical trials that seek to develop new treatment options for sickle cell disease. She is active in several multi-institutional research studies to advance our understanding and medical management of sickle cell disease.
As Medical Director of the Vascular Anomalies Center, Dr. LeBlanc co-leads a multidisciplinary team focused on providing comprehensive care for children and young people with vascular and lymphatic malformations and associated syndromes, which is the only program of its type in the state and gulf coast. She is experienced in the use of targeted medical therapies for the treatment of vascular malformations.
Dr. LeBlanc is an active member of the American Society of Hematology (ASH), the American Society of Pediatric Hematology Oncology (ASPHO) and the International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies (ISSVA). She has served as the chair of ASPHO Hemoglobinopathy Special Interest Group and has been active in several other committees. She was selected as a participant in the ASH Advocacy Leadership Institute in Washington, D.C. She is known for her compassionate and personable approach to patient care, and her efforts to improve the quality of care for patients with sickle cell disease in Louisiana.
