Bio

Dr. Love has nearly 40 years of pathology experience. He currently serves as Head of the Department of Pathology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center – New Orleans and as the Jack Perry Strong, MD, Endowed Professor of Pathology. He also serves as the Service Line Physician Leader of Core Specialties at University Medical Center – New Orleans and as the Medical Director of the clinical laboratories at UMC-NO, New Orleans East Hospital and the LSUHSC-NO Precision Medicine laboratory.

Dr. Love is broadly experienced in Pathology and possesses special interests and abilities in laboratory organization, regulation, and accreditation. He is especially interested in microbiology and infectious diseases including COVID-19. He has written several books on medical mycology as well as book chapters on hyalohyphomycoses and zygomycosis. He has also written numerous articles and given interviews on various aspects of COVID-19. Dr. Love is an active College of American Pathologists laboratory inspector having completed 57 CAP inspections of hospitals and hospital systems. He is a past member of several College of American Pathologists Microbiology, Curriculum, and Clinical Pathology Education committees. He served on the Microbiology Test Committee of the American Board of Pathology as Mycology Lead for 13 years.
