Bio
Dr. Love is Chairman of the Department of Pathology for Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans and holds the Jack Perry Strong, MD, Endowed Professorship of Pathology. He is Medical Director of the LSU Health Sciences Center Precision Medicine Laboratory and the University Medical Center Hospital Laboratory in New Orleans. He serves as the Service Line Physician Leader of Core Specialties at UMC.
Dr. Love has held the position of Chairman since 2019, having joined LSU in 2016 as Vice Chairman of Pathology.
He is a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the American Society for Clinical Pathology. He was a former member of CAP’s Microbiology, Curriculum, and Clinical Pathology Education Resource Committees. He has performed more than 60 CAP hospital laboratory inspections across the United States. He served on its Microbiology Test Committee of the American Board of Pathology for 13 years as Mycology Expert through 2023.
Dr. Love previously was the CLIA Medical Director of the Quest Diagnostics Reference Laboratory in West Hills in North Los Angeles (one of the largest free-standing medical laboratories in the United States), the Sacramento Quest Laboratory, and the Seattle Quest Laboratory. Dr. Love was ultimately promoted to Quest Western Region Medical Director, overseeing medical testing in the six western U.S. states. Before working in the Los Angeles area, he was a member of Diagnostic Pathology Medical Group in Sacramento which provided Anatomic Pathology services to six Sacramento hospitals.
Dr. Love is Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, with subspecialty board certifications in Cytopathology, Medical Microbiology and Medical and Public Health Mycology. As chairman of LSUHSC pathology department, he directs a 12-member Pathologist faculty and the LSU pathology residency program. He is the CLIA medical director of the University Medical Center Clinical Laboratory and reads Gynecologic Papanicolaou smears and malaria/parasite smears, interprets electrophoresis, and evaluates fungal cultures and mycology preparations.
Dr. Love is the author of multiple books on medical mycology. He also has written several book chapters on hyalohyphomycosis and mucormycosis, and numerous professional articles.
