Bio

Dr. Bhalla has nearly 20 years of clinical pathology experience. She serves LSU Health Sciences Center as an Associate Professor of Clinical Pathology and Urology, and Program Director of the Pathology Residency Program.  She also specializes in genito-urinary pathology, cytopathology and surgical pathology at University Medical Center-New Orleans. Dr. Bhalla is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the pathology residency program in compliance with ACGME and serves as chair and organizer of the pathology department’s grand rounds. She mentors residents, medical students, and healthcare professionals interested in pursuing a career in surgical pathology and cytopathology, and is credited with developing a curriculum and teaching materials for pathology residents in genito-urinary pathology, initiating a pathology quiz of the quarter available to internal and external pathology trainees and medical students, and developing a repository of virtual interesting cases to assist LSUHSC pathology residents in preparation for their board exam. In addition, she instructs LSUHSC medical students in the areas of genito-urinary tumors, and tumors of the kidney, urinary bladder, prostate and testis. Dr. Bhalla is a fellow of the College of American Pathologists and American Society of Clinical Pathology, a member and on the editorial board of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, a member of the Test Development and Advisory Committee for CertLink for the American Board of Pathology, and a member of American Society of Cytopathology, Association of Indian Pathologist of North America, International Society of Urologic Pathologists, A. James French Society of Pathologists, Genito-urinary Pathology Society and Association of Pathology Chairs.

Recent awards include: 2014 and 2021 LSUHSC Pathology Resident Education and Commitment, 2022 University Medical Center-New Orleans Physician of the Quarter, Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College Mid Term CME 2022 Eminent Speaker
