Bio
Dr. Athas has more than 20 years of academic experience in Pathology at LSU Health
Sciences Center – New Orleans. She has been instrumental in developing and implementing
the Pathology curriculum and teaches numerous Pathology classes to 2nd year medical students. She is currently the Pathology Clinical Content Co-Director
for the L2 curriculum as well as the Co-Course Director for the Hematology block.
In addition, she provides lectures for the LSBME for continuing education credits
for medical laboratory scientists (med techs).
She is a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology, American Society for
Clinical Laboratory Science, International Association of Medical Educators, Group
for Research in Pathology Education, and Group for Diversity and Inclusion of the
AAMC.
Recent awards include: Aesculapian Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2014, elected
to Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society in 2020
