Biography

Dr. Chastant is a proud native of Lafayette, Louisiana.  After receiving his doctorate from LSU Health Science Center of New Orleans he completed an Otolaryngology-Head & Neck residency here at LSU in New Orleans. Dr. Chastant is board certified in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and board certified in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is a Fellow of American College of Surgeons. Dr. Chastant is a Professor in the ENT Department of LSU Medical School.

Dr. Chastant was the founder of Acadian Ear, Nose, Throat and Facial Plastic Surgery Center in 1988. He sought to provide an all-in-one solution for his patients resulting in the specialized departments within Acadiana ENT of Acadian Hearing, Acadian Skin Care, Acadian Allergy and Acadian Facial Plastic Surgery.

As a specialist in both cosmetic and medical procedures, Dr. Chastant was the first surgeon in the Lafayette area to perform endoscopic sinus surgery as well as the first surgeon to perform an open rhinoplasty. He has pioneered research of frontal sinus stents. His first medicated stent procedure was performed in 2012 at Lafayette General Surgical Hospital earning recognition as the first procedure in the history of Louisiana Medicine to be an innovative success.

Dr. Chastant also works extensively with head and neck cancer. His training as both an otolaryngologist and facial plastic surgeon has given him a unique perspective on how to achieve a patient’s cosmetic goal while preserving optimal function.

Dr. Chastant credits much of his passion and learning to the late Dr. Jack Anderson, founder of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Chastant spent an extensive amount of his last year of residency with this remarkable surgeon.

While enriching the lives of our future, Dr. Chastant has continued to be a leader in medicine by offering internships and residencies to students in various concentrations. He is committed to teaching and training new physicians and is honored to serve as Professor in the ENT Department at LSU Health Sciences Center. He has been the founder and director for the Otolaryngology Residency Program at UHC Lafayette since it was opened in 1990 at the request of his mentor, Dr. Merv Trail. He continues to work with LSU at University Hospital & Clinics and his private practice.
