Tips for Applying to Residency in OB/GYN
Welcome! We are excited the you have decided to pursue a career in Ob/Gyn and hope
to provide some guidance during the application and match process.
In the late spring, we will hold a workshop to discuss the application process. In the early fall, we will host a mock interview workshop.
A few points to consider:
- Choosing a mentor in the department: All faculty members (aside from Drs. Alleyn and Polite who mentor all applicants) are available to you. The purpose of he mentor is to help you through the application process, edit your personal statement and CV, assist with making a list of programs, etc.
- Chair letter: Make an appointment to meet with Dr. Peacock, ideally in June. Appointments can be arranged by contacting her secretary, Judy Drawsand (jdraws@lsuhsc.edu). Dress professionally and bring a copy of your CV, draft of personal statement, transcript, and list of programs where you may want to apply.
- 4th year schedule: Acting internships within the department are encouraged. It is a great way to improve your clinical skills and work closely with faculty members. Away rotations at other institutions are not required to match in most programs but may be considered in some circumstances (geographic preferences, couples match, etc.).
