Antonia Traina MD, MS is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Traina grew up in New Orleans and attended Louisiana State University where she received a B.S. in Biology. She then spent a few years teaching high school students in Baton Rouge, LA as well as learning life experiences with multiple different executive office positions. Dr. Traina received her Masters of Science in Pharmacology at Tulane Medical School. She then spent four years attending Louisiana State University School of Medicine. She was very active in student government and community service while at LSU SOM. She became Vice President of Community Service for SGA where she led several school wide volunteer efforts aimed at providing health literacy, health education and community rebuilding to the city of New Orleans. Dr Traina attended residency here at LSU New Orleans where she received Intern of the Year as well as Resident of the Year as a chief. She also received accolades for excellent work in Maternal Fetal Medicine, Family Planning, and from the Society for Academic Specialists in Obstetrics and Gynecology during her PGY3 year. Dr. Traina spent her chief year in residency as an Administrative Chief Resident where she piloted educational curriculum, served as a liaison for resident wellness, and played an instrumental role in positive surgical curriculum changes. Dr. Traina plans to continue these pivotal roles as an Academic Specialist here in New Orleans.
Dr. Traina is a general Obstetrician and Gynecologist but some areas of particular interest to her include complex gynecologic surgery, complex family planning, office-based surgery, and resident education. She is passionate about both clinical and surgical education and already plays a role in the surgery curriculum including co-directing the UMC Gynecologic Surgery rotation. Dr. Traina strives to provide complex obstetric and gynecologic care to the women of Louisiana through both her private practice and as faculty in the resident clinic at the University Medical Cetner.
Dr. Traina is board eligible as of October 2023. She is married and her husband is a civil engineer in the city of New Orleans. Dr. Traina speaks both English and Spanish. She loves spending time with family and friends, cooking, exercising and all things travel. She takes a journey every two years to a new country and attempts to learn the language and culture of each new place.
