2026 Medical Student Research

Poster Symposium

Welcome to our website! Medical students from LSUHSC-New Orleans and outside institutions are presenting their research projects below. These were done under the supervision of mentors from our LSUHSC-New Orleans downtown campus, Louisiana Cancer Research Center, Children’s Hospital, University Medical Center, Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge, and other centers throughout the state.  

LSUHSC Medical students who received federal and regional awards to conduct year-long research outside the state, those enrolled in Research Elective courses, and students in the Honors Program are also presenting their projects. During these programs, students conducted their own small research projects or collaborated on larger, on-going projects. 

Since 2003, the Medical Student Research Symposium has provided the opportunity for medical students to present their research. Program Directors Dr. Fern Tsien and Dr. Kelly Jean Sherman, along with Dr. Angela McLean, and Dr. Jovanny Zabaleta help students to find mentors and conduct research.

Our team extends our special appreciation to all students, mentors, staff, and poster session judges who helped make Medical Student Research Symposium a success. We also thank our supporters who provided student stipends, resources, and travel awards: the LSUHSC School of Medicine Dean's Office, the National Institutes of Health's National Cancer Institute (NCI), the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), the LSU LCMC Cancer Center, The Robert A. Winn Diversity in Clinical Trials/Clinical Investigator Pathway Program (Winn CIPP), and Dr. James Wittliff and Mrs. Mitzie Hano Wittliff.
