Dr. Chelsey Sandlin, an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, obtained her Doctor of Medicine degree in 2009 from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. She completed her pediatric residency training at LSU New Orleans in 2012 and then served as Chief Resident from 2012 to 2013, demonstrating exceptional leadership and dedication.
Dr. Sandlin has been a member of Alpha Omega Alpha since 2008 and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics since 2009. She has also contributed to various professional organizations, including the Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics (COMSEP) from 2013 to 2015 and the Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD) since 2014.
Throughout her career, Dr. Sandlin has received numerous awards and honors. In 2018, she was the recipient of the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award, recognizing her clinical excellence and compassionate care. In 2022, she was honored with the Suskind Outstanding Pediatric Faculty Award for her significant contributions to education, research, clinical service, and advocacy in the LSU Department of Pediatrics.
Her commitment to teaching has been acknowledged through several teaching awards. She received the Nicholas Gagliano, MD Outstanding Faculty Award for excellence in teaching in 2014 and 2015, and the Aesculapian Society Excellence in Teaching Award in 2016 and 2018. Additionally, in 2021, she was awarded the Children's Hospital Best Clinical Teacher Award.
Dr. Sandlin has held various prominent leadership roles throughout her career. From 2013 to 2015, she served as the Assistant Student Clerkship Director. She later served as the Associate Residency Program Director from 2014 to 2017 and has been the LSU Pediatric Residency Program Director since 2017.
In her pursuit of professional development, Dr. Sandlin was a member of the Leadership in Academic Development Program (LEAD) cohort from 2018 to 2019, which focused on organizational leadership and faculty development. In 2022, she participated in the Medical Education Research Certificate Program by the Association of American Medical Colleges, enhancing her knowledge in medical education research.
Dr. Sandlin's career is marked by her unwavering dedication to pediatric education, clinical excellence, and compassionate patient care, making her a distinguished member of the academic medical community.
