Dr. Amy Prudhomme is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Division of Hospital Medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) School of Medicine in New Orleans. Her academic journey began at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a minor in Spanish. Following her undergraduate studies, Dr. Prudhomme pursued her medical education at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, receiving her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree.
Dr. Prudhomme completed her pediatric internship and residency at LSUHSC, where she further honed her skills and knowledge in pediatric medicine. She is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in both General Pediatrics and Hospital Medicine. Her commitment to continuing education is evident from her certifications in Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, and ongoing maintenance of certification.
Her academic career at LSUHSC began as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in 2015, and she has since advanced to her current role as Associate Professor. She also serves as a Clinical Instructor of Pediatrics at Tulane University School of Medicine. Throughout her tenure, Dr. Prudhomme has played a crucial role in shaping pediatric education. She has held various clerkship directorships, overseeing both third and fourth-year medical students' pediatric education, and has been instrumental in developing and implementing innovative curricula.
Dr. Prudhomme’s contributions extend beyond teaching, as she has been actively involved in several research projects and quality improvement initiatives. Her research interests include the Pediatric Early Warning Scoring (PEWS) system, grading assessment tools, and implicit bias in medicine. She has presented her findings at various conferences and is currently working on developing new curricula and educational tools for pediatric hospital medicine.
In addition to her teaching and research responsibilities, Dr. Prudhomme has contributed to the field through her role as a preceptor and facilitator in various pediatric programs, and as a mentor to hospitalist fellows. Her efforts in creating and implementing a flipped-classroom approach to traditional didactics highlight her adaptability and commitment to medical education.
Dr. Prudhomme is also a contributor to the field's literature, with upcoming book chapters in the third edition of Zaoutis’ and Chiang’s Comprehensive Pediatric Hospital Medicine. Her ongoing work and dedication continue to make a significant impact in pediatric education and patient care.
Dr. Amy Prudhomme has established herself as a prominent figure in pediatric medical education and research. She has significantly contributed to both national and international discussions in her field.
In March 2020, Dr. Prudhomme presented a research poster titled “Does Changing a Form Change a Grade? Does a Standardized Grading Assessment Tool with a More Objective Form Change the Overall Grades of the Students While on the LSU Pediatrics Clerkship?” at the Council on Medical Education in Pediatrics (COMSEP) conference.
Dr. Prudhomme's work continued to gain recognition in April 2021, where she presented several studies, including “Novel Educational Approach in Response to COVID-19,” “Bias in Medicine
Student Conference,” and “Is It All in the Form?” She was also involved in presenting “Implementation of a Virtual Diversity Rotation for Fourth Year Medical Students.”
In March 2022, Dr. Prudhomme, alongside Dr. Callie Roth, presented on the “Social Determinants of Health Curriculum for Pediatric Clerkship Students” at the COMSEP Annual Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her ongoing commitment to advancing medical education was further demonstrated in April 2024, where she facilitated a workshop at the COMSEP Annual Conference in New Orleans entitled “Shall We Play a Game? Workshop for Pediatric Clerkship Directors on How to Gamify Didactics,” and poster presentations on “Family Centered Rounds - An Educational Intervention” and a longitudinal study on “Pediatric Clerkship Implicit Bias Conference.”
Dr. Prudhomme’s institutional service reflects her dedication to improving pediatric education and patient care. She has been actively involved in various departmental and hospital committees at LSUHSC and Children’s Hospital, New Orleans. Her roles have ranged from being a member of the Resident Recruitment Committee and the Fellowship Recruitment Committee, to chairing the Student Clinical Promotions Committee. Additionally, she has contributed to critical hospital initiatives, including serving as a Physician Champion for the Pediatric Early Warning System Implementation Committee and as a member of the Antibiotic Stewardship Committee.
Dr. Prudhomme's contributions extend beyond administrative duties; her research interests and committee work highlight her ongoing efforts to innovate and enhance medical education and patient care within the field of pediatrics.
