Shannon Berryhill Palombo, MD, is a distinguished Clinical Associate Professor at LSU Health Sciences Center, Department of Pediatrics in New Orleans, Louisiana. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Shannon has established a remarkable career in medicine and education.
Dr. Palombo completed her undergraduate studies in Cell and Molecular Biology at Tulane University in 2010, followed by her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport in 2014. Shannon's advanced medical training includes a residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans from 2014 to 2018, where she also served as Chief Resident.
In her academic and professional journey, Dr. Palombo has held several significant roles. She began as an Assistant Professor at LSU in 2018 and progressed to Clinical Associate Professor in 2024 based on her commitment to pediatric healthcare and medical education. As an attending physician at Children's Hospital New Orleans, Dr. Palombo oversees the Pediatric Hospitalist Service, providing comprehensive care to a diverse patient population and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows. In addition, she served for four years as the 4th Year Student Assistant Clerkship Director. Distinctively, she is the founder and ongoing Curriculum Director of Quality Improvement for the LSU Pediatrics Residency Program.
Dr. Palombo’s work has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Excellence in Teaching L4 Staff Award and induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society for LSU Health Sciences Center School of Medicine. She is also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
Dr. Palombo continues to contribute to academia through various service activities, including her role as Chairman of the LSU EQuIP Steering Committee and member of the GME Executive Committee, among others. Shannon’s research interests and scholarly contributions are extensive, including numerous posters, presentations, and Grand Rounds at local, regional, and national meetings. Her passion for improving patient care and medical education, coupled with her leadership in quality improvement initiatives, make her a valuable asset to the medical community.
Beyond her professional achievements, Shannon is married to Myles Palombo and is a proud mother of four children: Eleanor, Abbey, Anna, and John Paul.
