Dr. McDonough is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the section of gastroenterology
and nutrition. Her primary clinical and research focus is in inflammatory bowel disease
(IBD) and she is the co-director of the IBD multidisciplinary clinic. She serves as
the Manning Family Children's site principal investigator for ImproveCareNow, a renowned IBD quality improvement
network, which spearheads initiatives to enhance treatment outcomes and quality of
care across a broad network of healthcare providers. Additionally, she recently joined
the multidisciplinary spina bifida clinic, caring for the complex gastrointestinal
needs of these patients.
At the heart of her academic endeavors lies a pivotal role as the co-course director
of the preclinical gastroenterology curriculum, preparing second year students for
their step exam and clinical years. Additionally, she participates as faculty for
the preclinical clinical skills integration course for first- and second-year medical
students and a TEAM UP™ grader for the interprofessional program. Her greatest enjoyment
in academics is her daily interactions with medical students, residents and fellows.
In recent years, Dr. McDonough has become a dedicated advocate for pediatric healthcare
issues. As a member of the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology
and Nutrition Public Affairs and Advocacy committee, she champions initiatives that
promote policy changes and raise awareness locally and nationally about critical healthcare
issues affecting children.
