Dr. Raghubir Mangat currently holds multiple prestigious positions, including Professor
of Clinical Pediatrics, Division Chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, and Nicholas
Gagliano Professor of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. She has a long-standing and distinguished
career in the field of pediatric emergency medicine, marked by numerous academic,
professional, and research accomplishments.
Dr. Mangat began her academic journey with a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Medicine from
Maharani Laxmi Bai College in Bhopal, India, in 1968. She continued her education
at Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal, where she earned her Bachelor of Medicine-Bachelor
of Surgery degree, graduating magna cum laude in 1973. Following this, she completed
a flexible internship at Hamidia Hospital, Bhopal University, where she also finished
her residency in the Department of Pediatrics from 1974 to 1977. To further her expertise,
Dr. Mangat pursued a residency in Pediatrics at Tulane University's School of Medicine
Affiliate Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, from 1978 to 1980. She then completed
a fellowship in Pediatric Neurology at Tulane University School of Medicine in 1980.
Dr. Mangat began her academic career as Associate Division Head of the Division of
Ambulatory Pediatrics at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans in 1992. She was
appointed Division Head of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center
in 1999, a position she has held since then.
In addition to her academic roles, Dr. Mangat has made significant contributions to
pediatric emergency services. She served as Associate Director and later Director
of the Pediatric Emergency Room at University Hospital, Medical Center of Louisiana
at New Orleans. Following the closure of the Pediatric Emergency Room after Hurricane
Katrina, she became Chief of Pediatric Services at Our Lady of the Angels (formerly
Bogalusa Medical Center) in Bogalusa, Louisiana, a role she has held since 2006.
Dr. Mangat has received numerous awards and honors, including the Master Pediatrician
Award from the LA Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2022. She has also
been recognized for her excellence in teaching, receiving the Nicholas Gagliano, MD
Outstanding Faculty Award in 2002 and the Harriet Lane Award in 2015 for Outstanding
Faculty Educator from the LSU Rural Family Medicine graduating class.
Dr. Mangat continues to be a leading figure in pediatric emergency medicine, dedicating
her career to advancing the field through education, clinical practice, and research.
