Dr. Jerussa Aita-Levy a native of New York City, attended medical school at SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse, NY. Following her medical degree, Dr. Aita-Levy pursued a residency in Pediatrics at the University of South Florida/All Children's Hospital in Tampa, FL. While in her Pediatric residency she also received a Masters of Public Health in Maternal and Child Health, at the University of South Florida.
In 2000, Dr. Aita-Levy joined LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans and is currently an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Section of Emergency Medicine. In addition to her academic role, she has served as the Chief Wellness Officer for the LSU Department of Pediatrics since 2016. In this capacity, Dr. Aita-Levy spearheads the Wellness Program, which is dedicated to addressing burnout among faculty and residents and enhancing overall wellness. This initiative emphasizes education and awareness, stress reduction, and fostering a supportive community. Her efforts include inviting renowned guest speakers on wellness topics, attending national wellness conferences, participation in the Nationwide Pediatric Resident Burnout Survey Consortium, annual Wellness Week, luncheons for working mothers, and contribution to the wellness section of the LSU Pediatric Newsletter.
Additionally, Dr. Aita-Levy is actively involved in teaching and mentoring the next generation of medical professionals. Her mentorship extends beyond the hospital, as she guides high school and undergraduate students interested in medicine through shadowing opportunities.
Dr. Aita-Levy also serves as a faculty advisor for the LSUHSC Medical Students for Life Interest Group and as a mentor for the LSUHSC Medical School Catholic Student Association. Her dedication to education, wellness, and mentorship underscores her commitment to advancing both individual and community health.
