Dr. Jay Hescock, Clinical Professor of Pediatrics, LSU Health Sciences Center began
his academic journey with an undergraduate education before pursuing a Doctor of Medicine
degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, MD, from 1996 to 2000. He then
completed his residency in Pediatrics at the Louisiana State University School of
Medicine, New Orleans, from 2000 to 2003, where he also served as Chief Resident from
2003 to 2004.
Since 2004, Dr. Hescock has been a dedicated member of the LSU Health Sciences Center
and Children's Hospital, New Orleans. He started his tenure as an Attending Physician
at Children’s Hospital Pediatric Associates, where he is responsible for the care
of 20% of admissions, maintaining close contact with approximately 300 pediatricians
and family practitioners to ensure continuity of care for patients with both general
pediatric and subspecialty needs. In 2005, he was appointed Associate Program Director
of the Pediatrics Residency Program at LSU Health Sciences Center, a position he still
holds. He has also served as Division Head of Hospital Medicine in the Department
of Pediatrics at LSU Health Sciences Center since 2009.
Dr. Hescock's leadership roles extended to becoming the President of the Medical Executive
Committee at Children’s Hospital, New Orleans, from 2017 to 2019. Currently, he serves
as the Service Line Leader for Pediatric Hospital Medicine at Children’s Hospital
New Orleans.
Throughout his career, Dr. Hescock has been recognized multiple times for his excellence
in teaching. In 2008, he received the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Fourth
Year Class of the Aesculapian Society at LSU Health Sciences Center and was inducted
into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He was also honored
with the Nicholas Gagliano, MD Outstanding Pediatric Faculty Award in 2010 and 2012
by the Department of Pediatrics at LSU Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Hescock has dedicated his career to pediatric medicine, education, and leadership,
making significant contributions to the field and impacting countless lives through
his clinical work and mentorship.
