Dr. Gary Duhon is a distinguished academic physician with a profound commitment to pediatrics, particularly in critical care. With over three decades of experience, Dr. Duhon has significantly contributed to the field through education, clinical practice, and research. His journey from a keen undergraduate in Chemistry and Biology to a revered Professor of Clinical Pediatrics is marked by dedication, leadership, and a passion for advancing pediatric healthcare.
Dr. Duhon embarked on his academic journey at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry/Biology in 1988. His pursuit of medical excellence continued at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, where he obtained a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1992. Recognizing the importance of public health, Dr. Duhon furthered his education with a Master of Public Health, specializing in Healthcare and Leadership, from the University of North Carolina School of Public Health in 1999. Following medical school, he completed a residency in the Department of Pediatrics at Louisiana State University Medical Center, New Orleans. His passion for pediatric critical care led him to a fellowship at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill from 1995 to 1998. Additionally, in 1996, he completed a Bioethics Intensive Educational Course at the Kennedy Institute and Georgetown University, underscoring his commitment to ethical medical practice.
Dr. Duhon has held several pivotal roles throughout his career. Since 2020, he has served as the Division Chief of Pediatric Critical Care at the Department of Pediatrics, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. In 2021, he assumed the role of Service Line Chief of Pediatric Critical Care at Children’s Hospital of New Orleans. In 2021, he took on the role of Service Line Chief of Pediatric Critical Care at Children’s Hospital, New Orleans.
