Dr. Bonnie Desselle is a distinguished Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Louisiana
State University Health Sciences center in New Orleans. With an extensive career spanning
over 3 decades Dr. Desselle has held numerous significant positions including Director
of the Pediatric residency training program and Head of the Division of Critical Care.
Currently Dr. Desselle serves as the Vice Chair of Clinical Operations and Medical
Education as well as the Chief Medical Education Officer at Children's Hospital.
Dr Desselle earned a Doctor of Medicine from Louisiana State University School of
Medicine with the highest honor as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha in 1988. She completed
a residency in Pediatrics at the LSU Medical Center where she learned later served
as Chief Resident. Following this, Dr. Desselle pursued a fellowship in pediatric
critical care at the University of Tennessee’s LeBonheur Children's Hospital
Throughout her academic career Dr. Desselle has been committed to medical education
and pediatric care. She has been recognized with numerous awards including the Special
program Directors Award from the Association of Pediatric Program Directors and the
prestigious Master Pediatrician Award from Louisiana AAP chapter. Dr. Desselle is
also a dedicated educator, having received numerous multiple teaching awards such
as the Nicholas Gagliano MD Outstanding Teaching faculty award.
In addition to her academic and clinical roles Dr. Desselle has made significant contributions
to the integration of medical education programs and the mentoring of women in medicine.
Her leadership and dedication have been acknowledged with the Robert Suskind MD and
Leslie Ledbetter Suskind outstanding pediatric faculty award.
Dr Desselle continues to inspire and lead in the field of Pediatrics, fostering excellence
in clinical practice and medical education at LSU Health Sciences Center and beyond.
