Dr. Zachary Daniels completed his undergraduate studies at Denison University in Ohio
with a BA psychology. Following he spent two years as a research assistant at the
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital working along side Tracy Glauser studying the pharmacogenetics
of neuroactive medications. He graduated with a master’s degree in pharmacology from
Tulane University and completed medical school at the Louisiana State University in
New Orleans. After, he went back to the Midwest and pursued training in pediatrics
at the Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. He then moved to Chicago and for
a pediatric critical care fellowship at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital
Northwestern School of Medicine. He stayed at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s
Hospital to complete subspecialization training in pediatric neurocritical care.
Dr. Daniels joined the faculty at the Manning Family Children's of New Orleans as
an Assistant Professor of Pediatric Critical Care at the LSU Health Sciences Center
in 2021. He is board certified in pediatric critical care and pediatrics. As a pediatric
intensivist, he treats critically ill children with multi-organ dysfunction, sepsis,
respiratory failure, and acute neurologic illness. He is the only pediatric critical
care physician in the state of Louisiana with additional training in neurocritical
care. He uses this training to lead hospital wide initiatives to improve the care
of children with strokes, traumatic brain injury, and other acute neurologic illnesses
through the implementation of clinical care guidelines. Dr. Daniels research focuses
on refractory status epilepticus and discovering ways to shorten time to seizure cessation
and improve outcomes.
