Amy Creel, M.D. is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. With a robust academic background, Dr. Creel completed her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Millsaps College in 1998, followed by her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2002. Dr. Creel completed internship and residency in Pediatrics at Louisiana State University School of Medicine, followed by fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics since 2005, she also holds a subspecialty certification in Pediatric Critical Care.
She started as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at LSU in 2008. She was named Assistant Director of the Pediatrics Clerkship in 2009 before taking over as Director of the Pediatrics Clerkship from 2010-2018. Currently, she serves as Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and holds a professorship at Children’s Hospital in Pediatric Research. Dr. Creel contributes significantly to medical education and faculty development as Co-Director of Faculty Development at Children’s Hospital, Co-Leader of the Grand Rounds Committee, and Co-Chair of the Mentoring Committee at LSU School of Medicine.
Dr. Creel's dedication extends beyond teaching to research and scholarly pursuits. In 2022, she obtained certification in Medical Education Research from the American Association of Medical Colleges. She has secured grants and contracts, including co-leading investigations into professional identity formation and perceptions of belonging among medical students. Her extensive publications in peer-reviewed journals cover topics from pediatric critical care to medical education.
Recognized for her teaching excellence, Dr. Creel has directed various clerkships and courses, developed enduring teaching materials, and conducted numerous workshops and presentations nationally and internationally. She has received multiple awards for her contributions to medical education. Beyond her academic roles, Dr. Creel actively participates in institutional and professional service committees. She plays key roles in committees at LSU School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital, and is active in several national medical education organizations.
Dr. Creel's career is characterized by her passion for pediatric critical care, medical education, and advancing the professional development of her peers and students, making her a respected leader in her field.
