Bio
Over the 25 years that I have been at LSUHSC, my research focus has been examining human papillomavirus (HPV) infection of HIV+ and HIV-negative individuals and the body’s immune response against HPV. I have been successful in obtaining funding from many different sources including the National Institutes of Health, American Cancer Society, Doris Duke Research Foundation and the Centers for Disease Control. In addition, I have had the opportunity to be the site Principle Investigator for a number of HPV treatment and diagnostics studies, studies to prevent anal cancer and more recently studies focused on those afflicted by COVID-19. Over the years at LSUHSC, I have had many mentoring experiences at many levels. I have directly mentored 5 PhD students, 4 Master’s students, numerous summer research students and a number of junior faculty in formal and more informal ways. On a clinical note, I am a board-certified Infectious Disease provider who has had a primary care practice for HIV+ individuals for the past 25 years. I also perform inpatient consulting at University Medical Center, East and West Jefferson General Hospitals, Touro Infirmary and Kenner Regional Hospital. I have been on the New Orleans Best Doctor's list for 15 years with a featured article in 2015. I have served on the Institutional review Board for over 15 years and on the Promotion and Tenure Committee for 10 years. I served as chair of P and T committee for 2 years ending in 2020.
