Bio
Dr. Griffin grew up overseas, moving between England, Turkey and France. They moved
to New York in 2002 to attend Vassar College, where they studied English. After a
few years of working in NYC, they attended the Columbia University Premed Postbac
program which they completed in 2010. They attended SUNY Downstate Medical School
from 2011-2015. At Downstate, they served as a gross anatomy teaching assistant during
their second year. They also were very involved with the student-run Brooklyn Free
Clinic, which serves the Brooklyn community offering primary care services as well
as educational and leadership opportunities for students from the schools of medicine,
nursing, public health, social work, physical therapy and occupational therapy. They
served as the Chief Administrative Officer for the BFC during their 2nd year and the
Chief Operating Officer during their 4th year. Having a desire to develop a global
perspective of medicine spanning across the outpatient, emergency and inpatient settings,
they pursued a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine, attending
the program at LSUHSC in New Orleans, graduating in 2020. They joined the LSU Medicine
Faculty in October 2020 and split their time between University Medical Center New
Orleans as an academic hospitalist and Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center Emergency
Department, which is one of the rotation sites for the LSU Emergency Medicine Residency
Program. They were recently named the Co-Chair of the new Clinical Guidelines and
Standardization Committee at UMCNO, with the intention of improving patient outcomes
and forging stronger ties with other departments and our Tulane partners. They remain
involved with the LSU IM/EM program as well, participating in monthly educational
meetings, resident development and program recruitment. Dr. Griffin is passionate
about medical education, student and resident mentorship, curriculum building around
the social determinants of health, palliative care and critical care.
