OPENS DOORS TO MEDICAL STUDENT MEMBERS
The American College of Surgeons has recently opened membership to medical students with its new Medical Student Membership Category. A one time application fee of $20 covers membership for the duration of medical school and includes free attendance at the annual ACS Clinical Congress and free online access to the Journal of the American College of Surgeons. In addition, getting involved in the nation's top surgery organization can have numerous benefits for students throughout medical school and when applying for surgical residencies. LSU “KOOZIES” AVAILABLE FOR SALE LSU MEDICINE soft drink koozies (foam drink insulators) are being sold by SIG. There is very limited supply so make sure to get yours before they’re all gone. Officers will be on hand with koozies after the monthly meeting or contact Josh Sibille―but only while supplies last. Remember: first come, first serve.
_______________ IF NOT, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? Those L1’s that did not join the S.I.G. at orientation will still a chance to receive a FREE S.I.G. T-shirt when they pay their dues. Also, upperclassmen who renew their memberships will also receive a free T-shirt. Remember annual membership is only $20 and it pays for it self in benefits, which include: - Monthly lunchtime lecture series (including FREE lunch) - Surgery observation at University and other hospitals - Research opportunities - FREE admissions to our suture clinics - Tips on applying for residency and acing the USMLE SIG is an organization for all LSU medical students. Everyone should be a member. You don’t have to be sold on surgery to be interested, and learning more about this unique specialty can be a great benefit to any student! And remember, S.I.G. can be listed on your resume or C.V. and certified letters are available to confirm your volunteer hours when applying for residency programs!
