The GME office held four dates for mask fit testing over the months of April and May. At these sessions, current House Officers and some faculty were fit tested. Each year LSU School of Medicine adheres to the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) of 1970, requiring employers to ensure safe and healthful conditions for employees by setting and enforcing standards. Mask fitting is part of OSHA’s training, education, and assistance and is required for each hospital facility.
New this year, the GME office invited the VA to a session to provide rotation information including fingerprinting and paperwork. TB tests were also administered at the last of the four scheduled dates.
The GME office organizes mask fit testing each year to provide a centralized record of compliance for each training facility. Over 200 incoming house officers will be fit tested on Tuesday, June 27 at the LSU School of Medicine House Office Orientation. Current house officers can also participate in mask fit testing on June 27 if they missed previous opportunities for fitting.
