Dr. Valentine N. Nfonsam Announced as Cancer Service Line Chair

LCMC Health strives to ease the burden of cancer in our state and throughout the Gulf South Region. In continuing our quest to prioritize the health and well-being of the communities we serve in the Greater New Orleans Area and beyond, we have added a new Cancer Service Line to our corporate structure.  

 

The Cancer Service Line will advance the efforts of LCMC Health as a healthcare leader and a destination for cancer care in the Gulf South Region by maximizing the strengths of our community and academic partners across our system to enhance comprehensive and seamless cancer care delivery. 

 

We are excited to announce two extraordinary physician leaders of our Cancer Service line – Dr. Valentine Nfonsam and Dr. Stefan Grant.

Dr. Valentine N. Nfonsam, Cancer Service Line Chair

Valentine N. Nfonsam, MD, MS, FACS, FASCRS is a Professor and Chair for the Department of Surgery at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, LA. Dr. Nfonsam graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago and completed his surgery residency training at UT southwestern in Dallas and North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, New York. He then completed a 2-year fellowship in colorectal surgery at University of South Florida, Tampa. He was Program Director of the General Surgery Residency at the University of Arizona for 9 years and Division Chief for Surgical Oncology.

He served for two years as President of the American College of Surgery (ACS) Arizona Chapter and he is currently a member of the Board of Governors of the ACS, a Councilor of the American Board of Surgery (ABS), and a member of the ACS Health Policy Advisory Group. He is a board member of Louisiana Cancer Research Center (LCRC). Dr. Nfonsam’s clinical specialties include colorectal and gastrointestinal surgery, gastrointestinal oncology and laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgery. His research focuses on colorectal cancer especially in the young in addition to disparities in colorectal cancer. He has more than 100 peer reviewed publications.
