Announcing Dr. Cathy Lazarus as the new Associate Dean for Student Affairs, and Dr. Hamilton Farris as Assistant Dean for Student Affairs

We are pleased to announce that Cathy Lazarus, MD has accepted our offer to become the new Associate Dean for Student Affairs. She will begin in her new role on March 1. Dr. Lazarus is an accomplished academician with substantive experience in medical school administration. A graduate of the University of Michigan and Washington University, she completed her internal medicine training at Washington University, where she stayed on the faculty for several years. She has also served as a faculty member at Tulane School of Medicine and the University of Illinois, Chicago School of Medicine, where she served as Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Medical Education. Most recently, she has served as Chief Academic Officer for the University Medical Center in New Orleans. She will be working closely with Drs. Joseph Delcarpio and Fred Lopez on transitions within the Office of Student Affairs over the next couple of months. She has an academic appointment in the Department of Medicine and will continue to have a role in patient care and medical student and resident education.

 

Secondly we are happy to announce that Hamilton Farris, PhD has agreed to serve as Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, working in the office along with Drs. Lazarus and Lopez. As you know, Dr. Farris is an accomplished educator who is committed to our students as well as to his scientific interests. He is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Otorhinolaryngology and Cell Biology and Anatomy, as well as in the Neuroscience Center and the School of Allied Health. He will continue to teach (as we know he is well-regarded in the classroom) and to direct his laboratory. He also begins his new role on March 1.
