Dermatology Residency Program

Medical Student Elective / Resident Rotation

Medical Student Electives

Two week rotations are available for LSUHSC-NO third year students as a part of their Career Planning Elective.  Third year students have the opportunity to rotate with residents and faculty at UMC.  During this time, students will see a variety of skin pathology and complex medical dermatology.

Four week Dermatology rotations are available for LSU and visiting fourth year medical students.  Students will spend two weeks rotating in New Orleans working closely with faculty and residents at our state-of-the-art medical facility, UMC and two weeks at our Veteran's Hospital, another newly constructed state of the art facility.  Students will also rotate in our Children's Hospital Clinic and have the opportunity to work with our Mohs surgeons. Overall, students will be exposed to a variety of skin pathology in patients of all ages and races while rotating through our clinics.   Students will also be required to attend resident didactic days on Thursdays.  At the end of the rotation, students will give a brief presentation as well as take a short test.

Visiting student electives have been suspended for the 2020-2021 academic year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fourth year medical students, from other institutions, who are interested in rotating with LSU Dermatology will need to submit an application through VSAS at https://students-residents.aamc.org/attending-medical-school/article/visiting-student-learning-opportunities/
